Computer Startup Slow? Try This
Programs that startup automatically when your computer starts can make your computer startup slow as well as run and operate sluggishly. Most of these programs are legitimate applications and drivers that are installed from the factory or when a new program is loaded. And some can also be malicious, virus type infections.
Programs That Make Computer Startup Slow
So what programs are causing the slow startup? There are a couple of ways to check out what is running. First go to the Start button at the left bottom corner of the desktop, click it and in the search bar that comes up type in “system config”. That will bring up a link to your computer configuration similar to the picture at left. You can see what programs and what services are running on your computer here. There is also a click box at the bottom to eliminate any Windows applications. Click it and you will be able to see the programs that are running other than the operating system itself.
You can also go to Windows Defender by going to Programs and finding it in the list. Windows Defender may have to be activated for you to use it. It is a program that is supposed to help with protecting the PC from malware but few people depend on it alone. It can tell you what is running on your computer also and gives you more information than System Configuration does.
Getting Info On Programs From Windows Defender
After opening Windows Defender go to “Tools” and find “Software Explorer”. As in the picture at left select “Startup Programs”. As you can see there is more information here. But this is not where I would turn off the programs that are running. I would do it in System Configuration. That way if you want to turn them back on you can later. Or if you turn off something that maybe you shouldn’t have you can easily undo it.
Too many programs running at boot-up can make a computer startup slow.. but what programs would you want to “turn off” at startup? And what is the best way to do it? Some easy examples would printer drivers that are from old printers that you are not using any more. Games that are outdated and were not removed and programs that you know you are not using any more. The anti-virus that was preloaded onto your computer is still there if you used another one and never took that one off. And it is probably still doing updates every day or so using up your PC’s capacity. When you are sure you will never need that program again remove it from the computer. If you have any doubt however just “disable” it using System Config.

Remove programs by doing an "Uninstall"
Completely Remove Programs With Uninstall
Some programs that are running at startup and all the time in the background are using up capacity and if they are old or not needed it maybe better to remove them from the computer altogether. This needs to be done by doing an “Uninstall”.
To do an uninstall go to Control Panel and find Programs (or Programs and Features). When you bring it up it will show you a list of all the programs and applications on your PC. You then select it and follow the instructions.
